I have known and closely worked with PYLUSD Trustee Marilyn Anderson for well over a decade now.  This time has not only included her time on PYLUSD’s School Board but also her time spent working for me at the Placentia Police Department where she oversaw the department’s Community Service and Crime Prevention Unit.

Marilyn has always been an individual that can relate to and understand the concerns and needs of the community she serves.  Marilyn listens to and collaborates with not only the community but those she works with taking on a global or all-inclusive approach to her work and the issues at hand. 

Marilyn in both her professional and personal life is an individual of strong character, ethics-centered, task and goal driven, works from a position of principled leadership and cares for and is engaged with both the children, youth and families of the District.

This is why I endorse Marilyn Anderson for re-election to PYLUSD School Board in 2024.

As a former teacher and School Board Member I enthusiastically support Marilyn Anderson for re-election to the PYLUSD Board of Education. 

Marilyn is a Placentia native.  She attended elementary school, middle school, and high school in the PYLUSD. All of Marilyn’s children did also.
     

 Marilyn is committed to serving the residents of our community. She has volunteered many hours to many organizations that serve our community. 

Marilyn has established herself to be an effective and responsible leader. Her priorities are the students and their education, not a political agenda.  

Marilyn is committed to securing the best educational opportunities possible for all our students. She collaborates and works as a team with parents and staff, is receptive to ideas, and is approachable.

My name is James Bell and I’m a 48-year resident of the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District and a 38-year employee of the PYLUSD; all at Valencia High School where I taught and coached for 22 years, was Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction for 8 years, and Principal for 8 years. The intent of this message is to enthusiastically endorse Marilyn Anderson to be re-elected to the Board of Education for the PYLUSD. 

Marilyn is a life-long resident of District 2, living just down the street from Valencia High School. Marilyn and her five siblings attended VHS during my tenure there so I know her family and upbringing. I know Marilyn particularly well because I was her World History teacher in 1982-83 and was her Driver Training teacher the following year. 

Nearly twenty years passed when I was reacquainted with Marilyn when her three children attended and graduated from VHS. During those years, I got to know Marilyn as a parent. Marilyn and her husband, who just retired after 30 years as an Anaheim Police Officer,  were very supportive parents and were familiar faces at VHS activities. 

I’m endorsing Marilyn, without hesitation or reservation, because during her entire life she has proven herself to be a dedicated and tireless supporter of our youth and public education in the PYLUSD. She is an unshakable advocate for quality education; one that is based upon collegiality, consensus, collaboration, compromise, and common sense.

Marilyn has proven to be an effective and trustworthy leader on the PYLUSD School Board.  She fully supports the right of each and every child to receive a high-quality education in schools that are safe and secure.  She does this because she cares.

Marilyn’s community involvement as well as school site involvement have continually impressed me.  She’s willing to listen and is definitely accessible.  Since joining the Board, she has invested time in expanding her leadership skills in the educational realm. 

As a former colleague, I know she conducts herself with integrity and comes well prepared and well informed to make decisions that in both the short- and the long-term ensure academic success. Marilyn's decisions are based on  providing opportunities for all our children to reach their potential.

For these reasons and more, I support Marilyn’s candidacy.

I have known Marilyn Anderson for over a decade.  We have served together when she was the Placentia PD Community liaison and “Love Placentia” citywide serve days.  

I have worked closely with her to improve the living conditions and educational opportunities for the children in the La Jolla community of Placentia. Throughout this time, I have seen firsthand that Marilyn is honest, responsive, dedicated, and always approachable. 

She deeply cares for the community, values the education for our students and her commitment and hard work are a testament to her love for serving others. 

I strongly recommend re-electing Marilyn Anderson for School Board—her leadership is exactly what our community needs.  

I have known Marilyn since she was a teenager.  I have found Marilyn to have unquestionable integrity.  She is a very caring person and is very unselfish with her time in the service of others.  Serving others is one of her core values as demonstrated by her many years of service in various community organizations.  

Marilyn and her family are DEDICATED to children and to public schools.  Marilyn unselfishly spends hundreds of hours studying issues and visiting classrooms.  She CARES about the students she serves.  She is always a good LISTENER and explains issues thoroughly.  She is tough on fiscal issues.  She is committed to keeping the instructional program and the well-being of children the top priority as she deals with various issues.  She demands ACCOUNTABILITY and takes very seriously her responsibilities.

Marilyn is independent without ties to any outside group or agenda.  She aggressively reviews the district budgets and policies.  She is thorough in studying all the issues on both sides.  She has the COURAGE to stand up for children and to represent the entire district.  She puts kids first, keeping in mind that every decision made must reflect what is best for kids.  She speaks her conscience and is not beholden to any outside group or agenda, especially in this increasingly polarized and divisive era.

My late husband, Craig T. Olson who served as a School Board Trustee for 16 years encouraged Marilyn to run for school board because he knew that she would be an excellent board member for our district.  He spent many hours teaching her ways that he found helpful in becoming an effective board member.  I am sure that he would continue to support Marilyn in her re-election efforts just as I do.

I enthusiastically recommend and support Marilyn Anderson's candidacy for the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District Trustee. I have been privileged to work closely with Marilyn for the past eight years as a co-leader on the Executive Board of “Love Placentia.”  “Love Placentia” is a non-profit organization that exists to demonstrate kindness, meet the needs of others, and impact lives in the city of Placentia. Marilyn is a vital team member and is committed to serving and loving the city where she lives, works, and plays. She is instrumental in ensuring that the Love Placentia Blessing Box program is supported throughout the year to support our families in need. 

Some of Marilyn's most admirable qualities are her integrity, high level of collaboration, and effectiveness as a leader.  As a lifelong resident of Placentia, she is deeply invested in the welfare of her city. Marilyn's problem-solving skills and dedication to education, particularly the welfare of our students, are evident in her actions. She is dedicated to quality education of our students. These leadership qualities and her skill set make her an invaluable candidate for the Placentia-Yorba Linda School District School Board.

I, George Allen, am a past principal of both Valencia and Esperanza High Schools.  Although retired 28 years (that makes me old),  I have continued to be interested in the schools and district policies.  In consideration of my experience, philosophies regarding education and on going interest, I wish to endorse Marilyn Anderson for PYLUSD School Board.

  Marilyn appears to be very forward thinking noticing policies as well as programs that need attention in order to be totally inclusive.  She works very hard to determine the varying needs of the district’s population so everyone can be well served.  

Above all, she sees, determines through evaluation and then promotes ways to make all students totally literate.  She understands that a major key to success is a person’s ability to read!  I am particularly impressed with the innovative ideas that she does promote.  Most notable is her desire to develop and initiate a program to teach parents how to teach a child how to read, so they will be equipped to properly tutor their children or others.  

Marilyn Anderson is unquestionably dedicated to PLYUSD’s students.

I’ve had the privilege of knowing Marilyn for nearly 30 years. We've served together on PTA and navigated the journey of raising our children side by side.

Marilyn has always been deeply committed, dedicating countless hours as a school volunteer, PTA leader, Swim Team Mom, and active participant in the Love the Cities program, Scouts, and her church. Her generosity, intelligence, and tenacity are qualities I’ve always admired. Marilyn has been a steadfast advocate for students, teachers, and parents, whether attending IEP meetings or serving on the school site council.

In everything she does, Marilyn embodies honesty, fairness, and thoughtfulness. Perhaps most importantly, she is approachable. Marilyn is an inspiration and a blessing to PYLUSD students and families. She puts in the time, energy and care of an inspiring servant-hearted leader who really knows and loves public schools. I’m awed by her integrity, dedication and actions-over-words example!

Marilyn and I are probably at different ends of the political spectrum and yet I still believe she is the right person for this board. She consistently shows up for the students and families in her area. She comes to meetings well prepared and asks the tough questions. She has impressed me with her ability to keep her cool under pressure. She has shown that she really believes in the concept that every student deserves a good education. 

Marilyn Anderson is thoughtful, principled, and continually demonstrates her care for our community. She has positively impacted everyone in our city through her volunteer work supporting LOT318, as a co-leader of Love Placentia, and organizer of the Blessing Boxes.  



Marilyn is a tireless advocate for the students and teachers in PYLUSD.  At school board meetings, Marilyn is well-prepared, asking thoughtful questions to help ensure fiscal responsibility and transparency for all stakeholders in the district.

Matters to ask the question “why are we spending our tax dollars this way?”

Marilyn has not only showed up at my child’s school, but has engaged with students and looked like she really enjoyed her job.

Marilyn has really shown a lot of growth in her role as a trustee. I am very impressed with how much detail she dives into when coming well prepared for board meetings. She probably had visited every school in her trustee area and many others. Not only does she show up, but she looks happy to do so.

I first became acquainted with Marilyn decades ago, when I served as a leader with a youth group in which she participated. I recall being amazed that, as a teenager, Marilyn's organizational and leadership abilities exceeded those of many adults. She had great ideas, was completely dependable, and knew how to turn her goals into successful actions and activities. 

Over the many years since that time, I have watched Marilyn as she has continued along this same path, setting high goals, organizing activities, and serving with many school and community organizations. 

She has given of herself unselfishly for decades. During her time on the school board, she has spent hundreds of hours visiting schools, meeting students and parents, studying issues, responding to questions, and supporting policies that bring the most benefit to the greatest number of students. As a taxpayer, 

I am grateful for her willingness to ask tough questions and investigate how education funds are being used in our district. She is honest, hard-working, and devoted to the success of PYLUSD.

 She is not beholden to any special interest groups or political parties. Once again, I will be voting for her in November, and I encourage the voters in our district to do the same.

I strongly endorse Marilyn Anderson for PYLUSD School Board! My grandchild have all attended PYL schools now for 30 years.

 Marilyn has made a huge difference in the structure and content of their education giving them the start they greatly need to enter the adult world.

I wish all of our school board members work as hard as Marilyn Anderson. She does her homework, is always out in the schools and she fights so hard for our kids, their families and our schools. She is ethical, smart, trustworthy and tireless. She doesn’t just say community service is important to her—she lives that life each and every day. 

As a Yorba Linda resident since 1980 and as a teacher and educator for over 40 years in Orange County, it is my pleasure to endorse Marilyn Anderson for School Board Trustee. I have been very impressed with the work she did in her first term. She has been impressively diligent in carrying out the duties of Trustee. She frequently attends district and school events; she is responsive to parent emails and queries; she clearly does her homework before votes; and she is a voice of reason and expert information at board meetings. Marilyn Anderson is here to help our school and students as reflected by her record on the school board. She is not here for some hidden agenda or perceived conspiracy against one side or the other. As an incumbent, Marilyn Anderson lends the voice of experience to the PYLUSD board. Her experience as a volunteer at the elementary, middle, and high school levels gives Marilyn a well rounded perspective on the needs of PYLUSD. She will be an advocate for all PYLUSD students and staff. 

Thankful for lifetime dedicated and caring public service like Marilyn Anderson for PYLUSD school board. Her code of ethics and her integrity are unparallel.

During her time as a PYLUSD School Board Trustee, Marilyn Anderson has provided our students, teachers and community members with exemplary service.  I have been impressed with her efforts to take courses and participate in training to aid her in navigating the complexities of being a school board member.

In addition, she has a long history of volunteering and serving in her local schools and the community at large. Marilyn Anderson is not done providing leadership and guidance for our schools.  I can’t wait to see what she does during her second term.

Marilyn Anderson:  Marilyn is cognizant of the diversity within the PYLUSD district.  She believes that all students need to be prepared for life after grade 12, including those students not bound for university.  She wants families to be fully informed of decisions made by the school board, with superior communication and transparency.

Marilyn’s service to the community and to our school board are inspirational. She has proven that she has the knowledge, skills and experience to represent all students.  She brings hard work, accountability and much needed common sense to the PYLUSD board.  Her continued presence on our school board is essential.

Marilyn Anderson believes in a wide variety of quality educational courses for all PYLUSD students.  She also works closely with staff, schools and parents to make certain that our students, communities and schools are safe and supported.  She is a familiar sight in the schools that are in her area as she is constantly checking in and assisting wherever and whenever she can.  She is an exceptionally prepared school board trustee and always has her homework done.  She researches issues and tries to look at controversial ones from all sides and solicits communication from students and parents to better understand what is facing our students in schools today.  She is knowledgeable, respectful and the sort of school board member that has proven herself over and over during the past two years.  I recommend that Marilyn Anderson be re-elected to the PYLUSD School Board.

My name is Dave Tennant. My wife Chris and I have made Yorba Linda our home since 1977. We love this town and its people. We both worked for the Placentia-Yorba Linda School district for the bulk of our careers and are now happily retired.

We have seen lots of changes to our town and community. When we first moved here, the world ended at Rio Del Oro. We have seen so many changes.

One change that has confused us is the direction taken by the PYLUSD school board. We have been concerned by the tone, tenor, and decisions that seem to have created confusion for some and consternation for others. Key to our concerns is that political ideologies are making their way into decisions that affect all the families and students that make up PYLUSD. Competency, community engagement, educator input, transparency, clear communication, fiscal and fiduciary responsibility, among others, are the necessary components of a complete educational experience for our young people.

Chris and I see the election in November as a chance to reset the PYLUSD board. We have followed the issues and looked through the resumes and qualifications of the candidates running for the privilege of serving on the board, to continue our storied tradition of excellence.

We are writing today to recommend to our fellow voting stakeholders to vote for  Marilyn Anderson in Area 2.

This is, in so many ways, a critical November election for our town, our state, our nation, and Chris and I encourage  everyone to get out and vote, and please, consider our recommendation  for the PYLUSD Board of Education.

Marilyn Anderson must be re-elected to the PYLUSD School Board.  Since Marilyn regularly visits the schools, she actually KNOWS what is going on in our schools and understands what the students, teachers, and staff need.  

Marilyn has been a major asset on the board because of her resolve to always do what is best for ALL students.  She comes prepared to the meetings, politely listens to everyone, makes her decisions based on facts, not assumptions, and refuses to waste our tax dollars.  

Please take notice that Marilyn’s endorsements are from PYLUSD educators and parents, not politicians.  I worked for 30 years as a teacher in PYLUSD, the last 17 years at Brookhaven.  My son and daughter and all three granddaughters attended Golden, Tuffree, and El Dorado.  I love PYLUSD.  Please re-elect Marilyn Anderson!  We NEED to KEEP her on our school board.

I am writing in support of the re-election of Marilyn Anderson for School Board Member in PYLUSD.  Marilyn is known to be a committed, effective, and responsible leader who is dedicated to supporting our students and advocating for our staff.  She deserves our support, and she deserves our vote.
